Point your camera at your meal and tap the scan button. CaloGen AI sends the photo to an AI vision model that identifies every food item in the frame, estimates portion sizes, and retrieves accurate nutritional data from the USDA food database. Results typically arrive in 5–15 seconds.
This happens when the AI cannot confidently detect food in the photo. Tips for better results: make sure the food fills most of the frame, use good lighting (avoid dark or backlit shots), and hold the phone steady. If a specific food keeps failing, you can add it manually using the "+ Fix Results" option after the scan.
CaloGen AI uses fixed AI settings (temperature 0, fixed seed) to ensure consistent results. If you scan the exact same photo twice within 24 hours, the result is cached and returned identically — no API call, no variation. Slight differences can occur between different photos of the same meal because portion sizes and angles differ.
The first scan of an image counts toward your daily premium quota. If you re-scan the same photo within 24 hours, it is served from cache and does not use your quota again.
Yes. CaloGen AI is specifically trained to recognize Balkan dishes including ćevapi, sarma, pljeskavica, burek (meat and cheese), gibanica, ajvar, šopska salata, pasulj, and many more. The app shows the local name (e.g., "Ćevapi") as the primary label alongside the English description.
On the review screen after a scan, tap any ingredient to rename it, or tap "+ Fix Results" to add missing items, remove incorrect ones, or change the meal type. After logging, tap any meal card on the home screen to edit it.
This can happen if your phone's clock is set to a different timezone than expected. The app uses your device's local time. Try pulling down to refresh the home screen. If the issue persists, contact us.

Premium unlocks unlimited AI photo scans. Free users can log meals manually or via barcode. Premium is a monthly or annual subscription billed through your Apple ID. You can manage or cancel your subscription at any time in Settings → Apple ID → Subscriptions.
Open the app, go to Profile → Subscription, and tap "Restore Purchases." If the issue persists after restoring, contact us with your Apple ID email and the date of the charge and we'll resolve it manually.
Go to iOS Settings → tap your name → Subscriptions → CaloGen AI → Cancel Subscription. You retain Premium access until the end of the current billing period. We do not offer refunds for partial subscription periods, but Apple may in some cases — contact Apple Support if needed.
Photos are stored in a private, encrypted storage bucket linked to your account. They are never publicly accessible and are not shared with anyone. If you delete a food log entry, the associated photo is also deleted. You can also request full account deletion to remove all photos.
The AI scan feature requires an internet connection. Manual food logging (typing a name) and viewing existing logs work offline. The app will sync your data when you reconnect.
Send us an email and we'll get back to you within 24–48 hours (weekdays).
